Touro Infirmary Earns the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

This award recognizes cancer programs that achieve excellence in compliance to the CoC Standards and providing the highest quality care to cancer patients. Touro is one of a select group of 16 U.S. accredited programs to receive this national honor for cancer surveys performed July 1 – December 31, 2017. The purpose of the award is to encourage cancer programs to raise the bar on quality cancer care, with the ultimate goal of increase awareness about high quality, patient-centered care.

Touro Receives Stroke Quality Achievement Awards from The American Heart/American Stroke Association.

Touro was awarded two quality awards in stroke care by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Silver Plus Recognition and Target: Stroke Honor Role Elite Plus. Touro’s stroke team for puts these guidelines to work on a daily basis, continually working to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.

Touro Voted "Best Hospital to Have a Baby" by NOLA Family Magazine's 2017 Reader Survey!

Touro was also a favorite for Best Childbirth Classes and Best OB/GYNs, with the top three all being Crescent City Physicians:

ACR - Radiation Oncology
Touro Infirmary Receives ACR Accreditation for Radiation Oncology. 

Touro has earned accreditation in Radiation Oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). 

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. 





Touro Selected by CityBusiness Among 2016 Best Places to Work


CityBusinessNew Orleans CityBusiness has selected the honorees for its 14th annual Best Places to Work special publication and event. To compete, companies must submit extensive nomination forms disclosing workforce data such as salaries, benefits, retention levels and employee advancement. The next part of the process involves a survey of company employees to measure workplace culture. CityBusiness selected 35 honorees in the large company category (more than 50 employees) and 15 honorees in the small business category (fewer than 50 employees).

 



Touro Achieves The Gift Designation: Louisiana’s Highest Breastfeeding Quality Designation

the GiftTouro Infirmary is proud to have earned Louisiana’s primary breastfeeding designation given by The Gift. The Louisiana Department of Health – Office of Public Health – Bureau of Family Health awards The Gift designation statewide to Louisiana birthing facilities who improve hospital practices and policies that are aligned with the evidence-based, internationally recognized Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding of the WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative. Policy development, education of staff, patient education and provision of discharge resources for breastfeeding mothers are key components of the program.

Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)

CARFIn 2016, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) presented Touro Rehabilitation Center with a three-year accreditation for the following programs: 

  • Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation
  • Spinal Cord System of Care
  • Brain Injury Rehabilitation
  • Cancer Rehabilitation Specialty Program 
  • Stroke Specialty Program 
  • Amputation Specialty Program


Blue Distinction® Center+ for Maternity Care designationTouro Designated Blue Distinction® Center for Maternity Care

In an effort to help prospective parents find hospitals that deliver quality maternity care, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana announced that Touro Infirmary has been designated as one of the first hospitals to receive the national Blue Distinction® Center+ for Maternity Care designation, a new designation under the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. The Blue Distinction Centers for Maternity Care program evaluates hospitals on several quality measures, including the percentage of newborns that fall into the category of early elective delivery, an ongoing concern in the medical community.

AIUM Touro Receives AIUM Ultrasound Practice Accreditation 

Touro Infirmary’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic is the first practice in New Orleans to be awarded Ultrasound Practice Accreditation by The Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine in the areas of Obstetric - First Trimester, Obstetric - Second Trimester, and Obstetric - Third Trimester.

Touro’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic achieved this recognition by meeting rigorous voluntary guidelines set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. The Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic at Touro is a full-service perinatology clinic with specially trained and certified physicians and staff who monitor the health of mother and baby and to treat patients with high-risk pregnancies.

Touro Infirmary has been designated as a Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Champion by the Mary Amelia Douglas-Whited Community Women’s Health Center and the Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition. Touro received this designation because it provides time, space, and support for employees who breastfeed or pump milk to feed their babies.

Fit Friendly WorksiteTouro Recognized as an American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksite Awards

Touro was recognized as a Gold-Level Fit recipient of the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Worksites Recognition program for helping employees eat better and move more. 

The Fit-Friendly Worksites Program is a catalyst for positive change. Worksites throughout the nation can be part of the initiative making the health and wellness of their employees a priority.

Fit-Friendly Companies reach Gold level status by implementing various activities and programs to encourage physical activity, nutrition and culture enhancements such as on-site walking routes and healthy food choices in cafeterias and vending machines.

Winning employers are chosen through employee surveys on a variety of workplace topics. Survey results are verified and tabulated by an independent organization.


Sleep Safe ChampionTouro is proud to be a “Safe Sleep Champion”

Touro works hard to educate new mothers and families on recommendations made by American Academy of Pediatrics in 2011 regarding Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and other sleep related infant deaths. In Louisiana, approximately 80 babies die each year from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), which is the broad medical term for sudden, unexplained deaths of infants before they reach their first birthdays.

Touro Infirmary’s Imaging Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed topography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

 

 


Touro Infirmary’s Women’s Imaging Center Designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology

American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of ExcellenceBy awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations by board-certified physicians have determined that the Touro Women’s Imaging Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
