2008 Outcomes and Facts
Touro Rehabilitation Center (TRC) is a 63-bed inpatient facility located within Touro Infirmary. Four distinct programs are accredited by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF):

The primary goal of the Center is to provide interdisciplinary rehabilitation services to physically challenged individuals to prevent/minimize impairment, reduces disability, and assists them to live within their community at the highest degree of their physical, social, and economic independence.

The population served by TRC includes patients age 16 and older with Strokes, Brain Injuries, Spinal Cord Injuries, Neuromuscular Disorders, General Debilities, Arthritis, Pain Disorders, and Orthopedic conditions.

During the year 2008, TRC treated a total of 550 inpatients, of which:

  • 145 suffered a stroke
  • 146 suffered traumatic or non-traumatic brain injuries
  • 96 suffered spinal cord injures
  • 93 experienced orthopedic treatment or multiple trauma
  • 37 experienced other debilitating illness
  • 23 experienced an amputation
Patient Profiles:
  • Our average patient is 55 years old.
  • The average length of stay for a patient in the Center is 27 days.
  • Approximately 77% of all patients in the Center are discharged to a home setting, 67% of whom had strokes; 80% had orthopedic conditions; 80% had brain injuries; and 77% had spinal cord injuries.
Treatment Profiles:
  • Patients in the Center receive an average of 3 hours of therapy 5 days/week.
  • Patients in the Center gained, on average, 33 points in their Functional Independent Measure (FIM) Rating.
  • 90% of Touro Rehab Center’s surveyed patients would recommend our program to others.
