Touro is committed to helping your changing mental and emotional health before, during and after cancer treatment.
There is no doubt that cancer can impact a person’s mental and emotional health. Various psychological and emotional conditions commonly appear when a person is experiencing the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. These include increased stress, heightened anxiety, and depression.
When a person is told, “you have cancer,” mental and emotional well-being is challenged. To meet this challenge, it is necessary to employ your coping mechanisms to help you deal with this major event in your life. If your normal ways of coping do not work, it may indicate a need for outside help from a mental health professional. Just know this is okay. Asking for help when you need it—no matter what the reason—is okay to do.
Touro provides support to those individuals who are affected psychologically and emotionally by a diagnosis of cancer. You are encouraged to get the help you feel you need so that you can live your life as normally as possible. Addressing your mental and emotional well-being is an important part of a comprehensive approach to treating all your needs, not just your disease.
