Kids Konnected > Resources for Children
When a parent gets cancer, the entire family is affected. Children experience their parent’s diagnosis in their own way and with a variety of feelings. Cancer is not an easy subject to discuss. That is the reason the Kids Konnected
program was created at Touro—to help families in the New Orleans community face the fear and uncertainty that comes with cancer and learn how to cope with it together.
The goal of the Kids Konnected
program is to:
- help parents learn ways to communicate with their kids about cancer
- give parents helpful information and resources
- provide support through group interaction for children and parents so they do not feel “alone”
The Kids Konnected program at Touro is affiliated with Kids Konnected—a California-based program established in 1993 to address the unique needs of children of parents with cancer. Kids Konnected is open to any child in the New Orleans metropolitan area between the ages of 5 and 18 who have a parent diagnosed with cancer. This free program is made possible through the generous support of the Mimi and Odom Heebe Family Fund.
