Q. How may family members contact me if I am a Touro patient?

  1. Family members and friends may call Touro at 504-897-8680 and request to be transferred to you. They may also request your phone number and dial directly to your room.

Q. When I check-in and register, what kind of personal belongings should I bring?

  1. You may bring a small bag of personal belongings such as toothbrush, robe, slippers and hairbrush. If possible, label all your belongings. Labeling greatly increases the chance of finding your items should they become misplaced. Whenever possible, please leave your valuables, including jewelry, at home. Touro does not assume responsibility for lost articles but will make every effort to help you find them. If you lose an item, notify your nurse immediately. For patients who suffer with sleep disorders and use a Continuous Positve Airway Pressure system (CPAP machine), please be sure to bring the device with you.

Q. What are the visiting hours at Touro?

   A.   General Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
          ICU: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
          Family Birthing Center: 24 hrs except for 6:45 -7:45 a.m. & p.m.
          Rehabilitation Center: 
          Monday - Friday:  4:00 pm - 8:30 pm
  Saturday: 12:00 noon - 8:30 pm
  Sunday: 10:30am - 8:30pm

Q. Where is the nearest ATM?
   A. There is a Chase ATM machine directly across the street from the Prytania St. hospital entrance, just outside of the Prytania Medical Office Building.
Q. Why do I need to register every time I visit the hospital?

   A. Touro offers a variety of services and the insurance companies require a separate ID for each visit.

Q. After my visit to Touro, why do I receive bills from places other than the hospital?

   A. Please contact Touro Patient Finance at 504-226-0094 with all questions related to your bill.

Q. How do I obtain copies of my medical records, records for a minor, a deceased family member or my spouse?

   A. You can visit the Medical Records department located on the first floor of the main hospital building. For your personal medical records you can visit our office to obtain a copy. Should you need to pick a copy up for a minor or your spouse, you will need to have them complete a release of information authorization form entitling you to receive the information. Please note: Processing fees for personal copies of some records may apply.
The Medical Records department is open 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and may be reached by calling 504-897-8411 or 504-897-8370.

Q. How do I schedule a mammogram?

   A. Please call the Touro Women's Imaging Center at 504-897-8600 or click here to schedule an appointment for a mammogram. You will need to provide information such as your name, date of birth, phone number, address, and the name of your physician.

Q. How do I get a copy of my child’s birth certificate?

   A. While in the hospital, you will receive the necessary paperwork to complete in order to receive your child’s birth certificate. If you need help, a representative from our Medical Records Department or a member of our nursing staff will be able to assist you.

A Confirmation of Birth letter will be mailed to the mother within three to five days after she is discharged from the hospital after delivery. Please keep this document in a safe place, as it cannot be replaced.

To acquire a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate, complete the Confirmation of Birth letter and mail, along with a check or money order to:

Q. What about Living Wills / Advance Directives?

   A. Federal legislation requires Touro to provide information prior to hospitalization about the Patient Self-Determination Act (PSDA). This material must describe:

  • Your rights under state law to make decisions about medical care, including the right to accept or refuse medical and surgical treatment.
  • Your rights to formulate advance medical directives such as a living will or/and durable power of attorney for health care, to guide the provision of care should you become unable to make your own decisions.

Q. Where should I park when I come to Touro?

   A. Patient and visitor parking are available in parking garages on Prytania Street directly across the street from the hospital or in the Delachaise Garage located across the street from the emergency department. The parking garages are staffed 24 hours. Parking fees are as follows:
0-1hr. - $3.00
1-2hrs - $4.00
2-3hrs - $5.00
3-6hrs - $6.00
6-12hrs - $7.00
12-24hrs- $8.00
Lost ticket is $12.00
