Rehabilitation services are provided to patients in the General Rehabilitation Program on orders from the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Specialists who recommend and provide clinical care specific to a patient’s diagnosis and any other underlying medical conditions. PM&R physicians evaluate every patient to identify and order those services needed to overcome barriers to function. Services include rehabilitation nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, therapeutic recreation, counseling and case management. The treatment team may also include dietitians, respiratory therapy, pastoral care and other necessary healthcare personnel. Rehabilitation treatment plans of care are goal directed based on needs identified by the rehabilitation team, as well as those of the patient and family.
