Touro Opens New Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility

Touro Infirmary announces the relocation of the hospital’s outpatient rehabilitation centers, Back in Action and Neuro Rehabilitation, to an expanded facility located at 1525 St. Charles Ave. The newly renovated location accommodates the two distinct specialized programs, formerly housed in separate buildings, to an expanded space with over 20,000 square feet.

Touro Rehabilitation Center’s new outpatient location features two spacious therapy floors for specialized, one-on-one physical, occupational and speech therapy, neuropsychological services, therapeutic recreation, a new indoor pool for aquatic therapy, private treatment rooms, a therapeutic kitchen, large gyms and new equipment throughout.

“The relocation of Touro’s outpatient rehabilitation services will allow us to provide optimal care for our patients with expanded space and enhanced equipment in a new, central location,” says Jeanette Ray, Vice President of Rehabilitation and Post Acute Services at Touro.

The new facility features the addition of specialized equipment including an Aretech ZeroG® Gait and Balance Training System, a Biodex Unweighting System, FitnessExpo weight machine, a NuStep and advanced treadmill for running assessments. Patients also benefit from the convenient uptown location and easy parking.

“As one of the first hospitals in the United States to have a physical therapy department, Touro has a strong history of offering medical services that promote healing and recovery for people with a wide variety of orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation needs,” says Susan Andrews, President and Chief Executive Officer at Touro. “The new outpatient facility allows us to provide one-on-one care for patients in a facility that now matches the expertise of our specialized rehabilitation care team.”

Touro’s Back in Action Center provides comprehensive physical and occupational therapy services to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, as well as case management for patients with orthopedic diagnoses, therapeutic wellness and women's health issues. Clinical services include skilled physical therapy and occupational therapy, patient and family education, therapy of the spine, aquatic therapy, and lymphedema treatment.
