If you did not make a New Year’s Resolution, it is not too late. In January, following a hectic and indulgent holiday season, millions vow to lose weight, eat healthier and exercise more. Why do resolutions seem so elusive after a few months or weeks?
Setting goals and working to achieve them is inspiring for your personal growth. It is essential to first develop self-awareness. Without self-awareness, it is like driving a car at night without headlights; you can still drive, but ultimately you will have a collision. Unhealthy behaviors develop over the course of time. It can be a good idea to reflect on the past year’s behaviors you would like to change and plan on making positive lifestyle changes. Maybe you are guilty of setting the same diet weight loss goals every year or looking for a resolution that makes you feel good about yourself? A lot of New Year’s Resolutions are ZERO fun. Setting sky high goals can cause frustration. Instead, opt for small sustainable goals. Change one behavior at a time.
Some of the things you could do are:
replace sodas and sugary drinks with water
bring your own lunch to work or school
cook at home more often
Take the stairs more often
Most of us are accustomed to speeding through life without noting any personal accomplishments, so celebrate a monthly achievement. Focus on the positive. Share your experiences with family, friends or co-workers. Having someone to share your struggles and successes with makes your endeavor to a healthier lifestyle that much easier and inspiring.
