NEW ORLEANS, LA – May 29, 2019 – The Touro Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of two NOLA Baby Cafés at Touro. NOLA Baby Café is a program of the H.E.R. Institute, whose mission is to improve the lives of the community through various health, education and social initiatives. Two grand opening celebrations will take place for each location: one on Tuesday, June 4 at the Bywater location at 6:15 pm and the second on Monday, June 10 at the Touro Campus location at 6:15 pm. The two new NOLA Baby Café locations are licensed by Baby Café USA. The mission of Baby Café is to reduce breastfeeding disparities by providing a free drop-in space for breastfeeding families to network and share resources.
In 2016, NOLA Baby Café was initiated to provide area families with free, informal, ongoing, high-quality drop-in lactation support by International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants. NOLA Baby Café was established to increase the breastfeeding duration and exclusivity rates in the New Orleans area. NOLA Baby Café provides a relaxed, non-judgmental, safe environment for all women, bringing together women from all socio-economic and racial backgrounds. This program, made possible at Touro by the Touro Foundation, is key to addressing the challenges of access to support and resources for new and expectant mothers. The Touro Baby Café is the first hospital-based Baby Café in the gulf south region.
NOLA Baby Café will meet every Monday from 6:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. at the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic located on Touro’s campus at 3434 Prytania Street, Ste 105, and 6:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. on Tuesdays at Touro’s Bywater clinic located at 3322 St. Claude Ave, excluding holidays. New and expectant mothers are invited to attend.
