Emergency Preparedness

Important Emergency Information

Touro Infirmary has plans and teams in place and ready to act if an emergency impacts the New Orleans area. Similarly, you should be prepared to implement your own personal emergency plan for you and your family. Access the resource links on this page to help you with planning and staying informed.

Our emergency preparedness plan is designed to ensure the safety of our patients and staff. In preparing our plan, we have worked closely with state and local governments, the Louisiana Hospital Association, LCMC Health, our medical staff, and our employees.

Severe weather updates

When a hurricane or tropical storm threatens New Orleans, Touro will activate its emergency plan to provide patients, staff, physicians, and family members with up-to-date information regarding our preparations, announcements about hospital and clinic status, and other relevant instructions. In addition, our website will be updated with vital information.

Touro staff:

Employees can find the latest hospital operations update on the intranet. LCMC Health has established the Employee Financial Assistance Fund to support staff as they rebuild from the damage of Hurricane Ida. Visit the intranet for more information.

Employees and providers:

  • Physicians, employees and the general public should continue to check www.touro.com for updates, monitor email and social media channels.
  • Physicians and employees, be sure to update your contact information in Touro’s Emergency Communication System, which is accessible from Touro intranet under the Emergency Preparedness Page. This will allow urgent messages to be sent to you directly via text message and voice mail.
  • Physicians, be aware that all attending and consulting physicians should transfer care of inpatients to the DMAT team using the transfer form available for download here. Transfer of care can occur no sooner than 24 hours prior to hospital lockdown. The form must be submitted in person for each patient to the Medical Staff Office.
