Touro Rehabilitation Center in New Orleans, LA, is one of the premier rehabilitation centers in the country, offering inpatient rehabilitation services that promote healing and recovery for patients experiencing catastrophic limb loss injuries, neurological disorders and diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, spinal cord injury, and brain injury. Touro Rehabilitation Center helps restore function to individuals with a wide variety of medical and physical complications, enabling them to lead active, productive, independent, and fulfilling lives.
Inpatient Rehabilitation Services
Touro’s specialized rehabilitation programs are housed in the main hospital, full service acute care is available around-the-clock to respond to any medical or surgical complications. Touro Rehabilitation Center has the advantage of having specialized hospitalists in-house to respond to any urgent or emergency need 24/7. Along with the expert skills of the board-certified rehabilitation physicians who care for our patients daily, Touro’s full complement of medical and surgical sub-specialties are available to provide services and consultations as needed. These include cardiology, pulmonology, nephrology (dialysis), infectious disease, endocrine, orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, wound care, intensive care, imaging, laboratory services and other specialties.
General Rehabilitation
Our general inpatient rehabilitation program specializes in the care of individuals who are recovering from a wide range of conditions including:
- Orthopedic injuries: Our team provides personalized care for patients recovering from fractures, joint replacements, and other musculoskeletal injuries.
- Neuromuscular diseases: We offer specialized rehabilitation programs for individuals dealing with conditions like multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and other neuromuscular disorders.
- Burns: We support individuals with burn injuries through dedicated physical and occupational therapy to promote healing and restore function.
- Deconditioning: We provide rehabilitation for patients who have experienced significant physical decline due to illness, hospitalization, or extended bed rest.
Additionally, we treat a variety of other conditions, tailoring our treatment plans to each patient's unique needs to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Specialized CARF Programs
Touro’s inpatient rehabilitation services, located on the Touro campus in New Orleans, is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and provides the education and skills needed to prepare patients for transition home after an acute hospital stay.
Touro Rehabilitation Center has been CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited for more than 30 years and is currently accredited in the following programs:
- Inpatient General Rehabilitation
- Spinal Cord Injury Specialty Program
- Brain Injury Specialty Program
- Stroke Specialty Program
- Limb Loss Specialty Program
Inpatient Admissions Criteria
At Touro Rehabilitation Center, we're committed to providing exceptional care. To ensure the best outcomes, our inpatient admissions are based on the following criteria:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- With appropriate diagnosis
- Requiring close medical supervision from a Physician Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician
- Requiring 24-hour availability with rehabilitation RN.
- Ability to engage in three hours of therapy per day, at least five days a week.
- Requires coordinated, interdisciplinary team approach for care.
- Goals focused on rehabilitation
- Family and social support, along with a solid discharge plan
