Aaron Hurst, 17, suffered a serious neck injury during a high school football playoff game. A few days before Christmas, his teammates surprised him by showing up at Touro Infirmary to present him with the St. Helena Spirit Award.

When injuries happen, the Touro Rehabilitation Center is here to help families receive quality care and recover while either admitted in the hospital for inpatient services or through a referral program for patients who may need daily or weekly rehabilitation services. The Center is a leader in rehabilitative medicine for programs such as brain and spinal cord injury, and comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation.


The center offers specialized inpatient and outpatient programs for patients experiencing catastrophic injuries, neurological disorders and diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury and post-cancer treatment complications. The Touro Rehabilitation Center staff helps to restore function to individuals with different conditions and physical complications, enabling them to lead active, productive, independent and fulfilling lives.

Brain Injury Treatment Program
Our specially-designed acute rehabilitation care program addresses the needs of people with head trauma, whether mild or severe, and aims to maximize their functional abilities at all stages of recovery.

Spinal Cord Injury Treatment Program
Our Spinal Cord Injury Program is dedicated to helping spinal cord patients regain their highest level of functioning as quickly as possible in while promoting independence and community/home/academic reentry.

Parkinson’s disease Treatment Program
Our rehabilitation program for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease includes physical, occupational and speech therapy, as well as the nationally recognized LSVT Big and LSVT Loud program for treatment.

Stroke Treatment Program
When a stroke affects an individual, proper and efficient physical, occupational and speech therapy can begin to give a patient the best chance to recover skills and abilities.

Rehabilitation Services at Woldenberg Village
Our program extends to the Westbank at Woldenberg Village, a full-service retirement community, for residents who require an individualized rehabilitation program due to injury or illness.

Inpatient General Rehabilitation Program
This program offers services focused on excellence in providing compassionate, family-oriented rehabilitation services. We work to improve the quality of life for by facilitating independence and community re-entry.

Outpatient General Rehabilitation Program
Services include physical, occupational therapy and speech therapy. We’re here to assist you with getting back on the road to recovery after surgery or injury and treat diagnoses such as lymphedema, pelvic floor issues, joint replacements and more.

Cancer Rehabilitation Program
Once cancer treatment is complete, side effects may linger and our Cancer Rehabilitation program can assist survivors regain strength, ability and wholeness as they start their life post-cancer.

Support Services
Touro provides services for patients and their families while they are admitted in the Touro Rehabilitation Center including support groups, home health services, housing for families, recreational opportunities and drivers assessment services.

Touro therapists have advanced training or certifications in a variety of areas, including:

  • Lymphedema (ACOLS)
  • Graston 1
  • Vital Stim for Speech Therapy
  • Vestibular Certification
  • Neurologic Certified Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association 
  • STARTM  Certified Therapist
  • Certified Brain Injury Specialist
